Senior Associate, Lab Operations

LabCentral, a rapidly growing collaborative workspace and launch pad for early stage biotech companies in Cambridge, is seeking a highly driven Senior Associate who will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the labs and equipment at the Life Lab, a Harvard Innovation Labs facility operated by LabCentral. Reporting to the Director of Lab Operations, this position supports innovative scientists by facilitating proper use of laboratory equipment, resolving issues quickly, and providing technical assistance. This person will employ a high level of autonomy in their work, thinking critically about problems within the context of multiple layers of complexity and taking the initiative to pursue new ideas. Ideally suited for someone who takes great pride in the quality of their work, this is a hands-on position with high management exposure and opportunity for growth. Responsibilities: • Manage and oversee the general laboratory environment; this includes cleanliness of the space as well as ensuring that resident scientists have what is required for their experimental needs • Display a high level of customer service throughout all aspects of the job • Train residents on the use of equipment and organize training sessions with vendors • Perform maintenance and repair of laboratory equipment including daily maintenance tasks to ensure instruments are working properly, schedule preventative maintenance, troubleshoot equipment issues • Support maintenance of the laboratory computer infrastructure by working with IT • Develop standard operating procedures for the start-up and shutdown of shared equipment • Lead for management of alarm systems including restoration resets and checks • Manage and oversee the inventory management control program • Establish and maintain relationships with vendor representatives • Manage chemical inventories and work with EHS consultants to manage liquid and solid waste pickup and storage of chemical and biohazard waste • Think critically to resolve unique issues revolving around a shared work environment and help maintain an environment of collaboration and creativity Qualities: • Loves to learn and understand how things work and is an innate tinkerer • Personable and articulate with strong written and verbal communication skills • Self-starter with excellent work ethic and optimistic attitude • Detail orientated with astute attention to quality control and getting things right • Desire to be part of a team focused environment and derive pleasure and satisfaction in helping others • Ability to manage time efficiently and prioritize tasks Requirements: • College degree in a scientific field and/or 4+ years of lab management experience • Outstanding organizational skills and ability to multi-task • Working knowledge of MS Office, proficiency with database systems • Must be able to lift over 50 pounds and be able to be on your feet for multiple hours at a time Compensation/Benefits: • Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications • 401(k) package, plus 100% of the cost of a premium healthcare and dental package, long and short-term disability, life insurance, and unlimited vacation.
